About Lance
I’m Lance, the man behind the personal finance blog! I am an educator in his early 30s with ten years teaching and coaching in a small district inside the beautiful Adirondack Park in New York State.
I’m married to my fantastic wife, and we have an amazing little family with three sons. Together, we have spent the last 13 years (married for 8 years) building a better financial, professional and family life for ourselves.

I took my process and what we have learned about personal finance to blogging in 2018 as a passion project. After a small hiatus (okay, I was MIA for a while!), I’m back and revamping the website to get ready to provide some killer content for you! I am truly here to just help others improve their lives.
My Goal
As an educator, I firmly believe in the importance of our work and as a molder of society. We have the ability to improve so many lives. Education and those that provide it are vital to our on-going success and improvement as a human race.
Yet, we often better the world to the detriment of our own mental, physical and financial health.
We sacrifice so much to be there for our students and community.
We get burnt out.
We forget to take care of our health.
We spent ungodly amounts of time planning and grading at home, when we should be enjoying the company of our family.
And we definitely forget to take care of our personal finance situation.
Well, I am here to help with all of that. My goal is to help you straighten out your professional, family and financial life to make you happier, healthier, more productive and wealthier! And who doesn’t want that?

A Bit of Our Story
Over the past couple years, my wife and I have made some major changes in our life. We welcomed our third son, and my wife transitioned to a SAHM, living us only with my teacher’s salary. We cut costs, slowed our investment contributions, and made some tough choices about how we want to live our lives. You’d think our financial situation would have taken a nose dive from the sound of that! But, no. We had a solid emergency fund, had invested a good portion of our income earlier on, and continued to keep our contributions going, even though smaller than before. And in fact, we continue to do well despite reducing our income, adding a child, and moving to a higher cost of living area.
We still have a long way to go financially, and I am definitely not a financial advisor or financial professional, but I hope to inspire you with my personal finance knowledge, experiences, and tales of our journey. I am not typing here posing as some young millionaire or impressive investing guru– go find those people on X… they are a dime a dozen, and probably worth about the same. Instead, this is a real life story of a family doing their best to implement the personal financial strategies they’ve gathered over years of study, trial and error, and obstacles in the way. This is a place to share personal finance knowledge. A place to build a personal finance focused community that supports one another. So let’s get started.
